How Posture Affects Your Health


When you were a child, did your mother say, "stand up straight, if you slouch your body will stay that way!" Well, Mom didn't know how right she was.

Your spine has four natural curves - at your neck, mid-back, low back and sacrum. Correct posture should maintain these curves. Your head should be relaxed above your shoulders, and the top of your shoulders should be over your hips. Nature has provided us with these curvatures to allow for balance and walking. The curves also act as a shock absorber to withstand the forces that gravitate through the spine when we walk or run. The complex design of our body includes postural muscles that hold us up, and phasic muscles that allow us to walk, exercise and carry out activities of daily living. Poor posture leads to neck stiffness, headaches, back pain, sciatica and fatigue. Now more than ever, these symptoms are affecting adults working from home as well as kids studying online or hanging their heads over their phone while talking and texting (true of parents, too). But here's where we get in trouble: As postural muscles shorten from too much sitting, not enough stretching, and yes, slouching, the ligaments connecting them to vertebrae begin to shorten, leading to degenerative arthritis. On top of that, if the phasic muscles weaken, posture is further impacted. That's why it's important to have a spinal exam by a chiropractor.

Introducing Virtual Chiropractic Care



Understanding that people are reluctant to schedule in-person visits to health care practitioners with the pandemic still raging, I have devised a way to deliver essential components of the care you need without coming to my office. How does it work?

The 6-week program addresses how to reduce chronic back, neck, shoulder pain, and tension, all of which affect posture. Your first 1-hour consultation will include a case history, stress evaluation, 21 orthopedic, neurological and postural evaluations.


From my findings, I will make recommendations to empower you to achieve optimal health and wellness.


In subsequent sessions, you will learn corrective exercises leading to the reduction of postural stress, restore flexibility and mobility of your spine. These take about 8 sessions to master. The 30-minute sessions are scheduled twice a week, online.
