Marin Chiro’s Top 3 Summer Tips for Managing Stress
July 21, 2015
There’s no doubt that stress has a direct impact on our health. How does it show itself? Headaches, fatigue, high blood pressure, digestive issues…the list goes on and on. According to a June 2014 WebMD article, a full 75% to 90% of visits to the doctor are for stress-related complaints.
Let’s take a moment, in the middle of summer in beautiful Marin County, to appreciate where we live and the resources we have at hand to calm our stress levels. Although I have many tips for reducing tension and anxiety, here are my top choices for the season:
1. Take advantage of long days – it’s light until 8:30 p.m., so there’s more time after work to get out and hike, bike or just stroll around your neighborhood. Being outdoors and moving our bodies is immensely healing.
2. Slow down – let the speed of daily life naturally drop down a notch in summer. Give yourself permission to take advantage of more flexible schedules: school’s out, people are traveling and if you’re in the office, days tend to be quieter. Treat yourself and your family to a simple pleasure like a trip to the beach or a picnic.
Or take up a new hobby—maybe something artsy, or try yoga or gardening. Remember, the pace picks up again in the fall, so make the most of summer breathing space. If you can, plan a vacation. Even a weekend away can change your whole outlook.
3. Eat from the garden – feed your body healthy and delicious California produce. Of course, it tastes best when you grow it yourself. But a close second is ultra-fresh summer fruits and vegetables from the farmers’ market. At this time of year, you’ll find 17 farmers’ markets across Marin, to help fuel your body with the therapeutic vitamins, minerals and antioxidants it needs to flourish.
Chiropractic health support When you want extra help to dissipate tension, regain your equilibrium and reduce the physical signs of stress, consider gentle, effective chiropractic care. A chiropractic adjustment actually reduces stress on the body, strengthens the immune system and lowers high blood pressure.
In fact, chiropractic is the largest alternative medicine field, third largest health profession in the world and an all-natural way to promote peacefulness and improved wellbeing. In my practice, I focus on aiding the healing of the entire person, body and mind together.
